February Tracks
Lots of great stuff has been coming out since the start of the month, meaning last week’s radio show, which I’ll post here as soon as I have it (apologies) is a particularly enjoyable one, if I say so myself! Forthcoming on Mobilee is a jawdropping 12 from Marco Resmann in a Basic Channel/Ame style, both sides are epic booming house tracks, very much the antithesis of clicky minimal. It’s a great 12 which is bound to be huge.
DJ T’s “Lucky Bastard” also is getting a full release soon on Get Physical, after one mix was sold on Beatport just after Christmas. The full 12 comes with a remix from the star of this writer’s Myspace page, Prosumer. It’s T’s first solo production though you’d hardly notice the difference. Perhaps this is a little bit more raw than the Booka Shade collaborations we’ve heard from him to date, but the vibe is still “German producer doing Kerry Chandler/Chicago House”. It’s a great 12 though, Prosumer’s mix is a nice addition too. It really is kind of amazing how Get Physical are still churning out such good releases, I felt quite old when I realised they’re on number 60 or something now. I can remember the excitement when the first anniversary comp came out.
In other Get Physical Music news, their sublabel which nobody seems to care about, or in many cases know about, Kindisch, has just released another great 12 from Einzelkind. DJ T himself will no doubt be rinsing this deep US styled groover. “Pay 2 Play” in particular, all cowbells and organs, sounds like it could be on Sonar Kollektiv. So it’s yet more steps by Get Physical into the “real house” zone. But I’m feeling the darker more abrasive “Bonnieland” even more than “Pay 2 Play”. Definitely a 12 to check out.
Also on the housey side of things is Argy’s great remix of Move D, on some Liebe Detail branch or re-release sublabel. I like this one because you can just slam it into the mix, it’s quite poppy really. It’s always interesting the way these German records sound so blatantly US house influenced but still could only be made by German producers from the minimal house scene. Check out this Argy remix and you’ll see what I mean.
But my favourite record at the moment is definitely Martin Buttrich’s remix of Holy Ghost Inc’s “Mad Monks On Zinc”. I’ve been 50/50 on Buttrich so far, I loved “Full Clip”, but felt his release on Pokerflat strayed too far into Supper Club lounge house territory for me (as I’ve mentioned). It’s not that I think there’s anything definitively wrong with lounge music, I like compilations like the Hotel Costes Series, but when lounge meets electronic house you get this awful mélange, and I got that vibe a bit from some of Buttrich’s Loco Dice stuff, and the Poker Flat release.
This remix on the other hand, I really love. it’s definitely going to remind people of Henrik Schwarz, with all the glittery touches in the right places, but it is a little trancier and even reminds me of Booka Shade a bit. In short it’s the ultimate M.A.N.D.Y. DJ set record!
It’s a seriously deep vibe and will be blowing minds on early morning dancefloors near you very soon. The prospect of this type of record slaying all comers in Ibiza this summer is an awesome one. It’s not quite trance, not quite Detroit Techno, and not quite house, I’ve never been to the island itself but records like this must be the perfect soundtrack.

I’ll give it another shot, but i’m struggling to get along with the Martin Buttrich remix, sounds a bit late 90’s prog. Enjoyed the Argy thing though.

I didn’t imagine [the MB remix] would be this deep or scattered. How different is it from the original?
