Changes

I’m trying to change things a bit, so that the blog is better when I return and so that I feel a bit refreshed about doing it. Some stuff I’ve been considering:

1. Guest mixes: This is someting I’ve wanted to do for a while, get somebody not so well known but interesting (eg the same sort of people whose tracks I stream) to record a mix and chat to them about it, I would probably do this on Mondays and add it to the Podcast, once nobody minded getting two mixes a week. I could make it part of the show but generally I enjoy doing an hour and a half mix on Thursdays.

2. New theme/design: With Wordpress it’s pretty easy to do this, so maybe I can try it. That said I think the theme here is pretty nice and simple. Could it be better?

3. Any other suggestions? There are around 200 readers a day here usually, so I assume some of you find fault with some of the stuff here (and I don’t mean the writing!) I’d welcome any suggestions. It seems hard to make things radically different but when I do begin again (probably in 10 days or so) I want to have benefited from the break.

I guess the main thing is after almost a week with no posts I now know I actually do want to post here. So things should be back, but not back to normal, shortly enough.

Would receive guest mixes well - this blog is all about finding out about new music for me and that would definitely tie in with that.

No complaints here, though I must say I’m surprised you only get 200 visitors a day, considering your infamy on the dance internets.

Podcasts is obviously a nice idea, everything else is fine :)

I know this is a music site, but perhaps some tie-in with your other blog (/everythingelse). Don’t know why, just think that it is also worth a read and might get some crossover discussion going……….?

    Maybe.

I like the format you use, nice and simple and due to its simplicity, could conceivably be work related if anyone was to glance at my screen in work.

you thought you didn’t want to post here ? wazzup with that ? fuck, my 2007 music iq has doubled thanks to you; i would pay to read your site. guest podcasts are welcomed obviously (although there’s something to be said about one man’s vision) so long as the quality is consistent with what you do . (read: no grime podcasts). here’s an idea (stolen), how bout a year end top 100 or 50 or so ? whatever u decide i know it’s probably a shitload to do for free, so it’s appreciated, thanks.

Thanks a lot for the praise. Yeah just had to reassess a bit, posting every other day can be a strain, probably just needed this little break. I’d say next week I’ll be back.

A top 50 is a good suggestion, that’s something I’d like to do in December.

The podcasts should come back as soon as I have the money to afford something to record them on, or repair the one that broke.

There won’t be any grime guests I guarantee!

i was also kinda surprised at the 200 per day number. i wonder how many visitors other techno blogs were getting!

guest mixes are always good, especially exclusives from famous people and stuff from up and coming cats. changing the look should be easy enough, but i like it simple. its kinda funny how similar ISM, your site, and test look! if people read your posts from feeds, they cant see how it looks anyway!

also, you could always get some like minded individuals to post with you, make it less a personal blog. thats how we roll, though some people post more than others ;)

Yeah I guess everybody likes plain text on white. Looks the best. Or maybe we’re all just “minimal” haha.

Did you think I got less or more than 200? It’s around 200 unique visitors a day and quite a lot of visits. I’m no expert but I guess unique visitors is the best way to gauge.

For a long, long, long time it was 100. After the summer and the RA column things crept up a little. So it’s 180-200 most days now.

It’s hit a wall at that for a long time too.

What’s weird is that literally the day after I made the show into a podcast it had 200 subscribers or so…so I guess if I looked at unique monthly visitors I’d see a wider picture. I don’t have those stats to hand though.

What does ISM get? You guys are on Bluehost too yeah? They have great stats.

Oh yeah, and I reckon I’m too much of a control freak about music writing to make this a group project! Though I have considered giving other people a weekly reign…
