HIAF End of Year Chart 13-11
13. Rhadoo-Going Like You (Ar:pi:ar)

People might soon talk about Romanian techno being hyped, but the reality is that it’s quite a small scene that is interesting purely because the music being made by a couple of producers has a sound that’s separate from almost all of the other things going on in dance music right now. Well, that and the huge enthusiasm in the country that makes dance music feel newer than elsewhere.
I daresay that prog is the elephant in the room for some of this music, but not all, and in any case I’m not one to be dismissive as a result of that. As for “Going Like You”, it’s a hard track to resist, the elements are so simple, a whiff of the experimental and wave after wave of melody. You know you’re listening to house music at its best when dynamism meets repetition. For a producer that is supposedly the sound of now, this is curiously old sounding isn’t it? Yet I’m hard pushed to say what other artists it references.
12. Zander VT-Then and Before (Redshape’s Present Mix) (Memo)

A good year for Redshape and not a bad year for Bpitch/Memo’s Zander VT either. This remix sees the masked man himself go for the heartstrings with a viciously bombastic and dramatic piece of techno music. I guess techno will never stop leaning towards cosmic sounds and feelings, and this sense of sci-fi is strong on this one.
I played this so many times this year that the CD is probably fucked (yes I know, vinyl is indestructible and has less air miles etc) and every time the reaction was immense. This is my favourite Redshape track of 2007 and that’s quite a compliment when he’s had so many other tracks I’ve played. If you haven’t heard it, enjoy it.
11. Audion-I Gave You Away (Spectral/Ghostly)

So am I the only one who likes this better than anything else Matthew Dear has done this year? I really like the drama of the Blackstrobe remix, I quite like “Noiser/Fred’s Bells”, but I love “I Gave You Away”. If you want people to go crazy, then play this record. That’s one acid test that this passes with ease. There are other qualities, and other records that fulfill those, but this does what it does in a nigh on unmatchable way.
[Into the top 10 tomorrow. Christmas doesn’t start for me until I’m finished work on the 24th!]

Some great tracks in the run down so far dude (especially loving Noh Ngamebo) I’ll be interested to see what makes it into the top 10 even if the numbers mean fuck all. Keep up the good work.

I Gave You Away rates alongside Mouth To Mouth in my mind. Stormers, both of them.
His remix for dubfire likewise.
Thanks for the great rundown so far Ronan.

I gave you Away, is one of Audion’s Best, it is hard to put those chords to sound like music.

Much as I love other Audion anthems I just can’t get into “I gave you away”. It’s not bad but just not on the level of “just fucking” or something like that. I’ll give it another chance when I dj tonight. But I am quite partial to “Casio” by Par Grindvik on the same record.
That arpiar record is top notch. I dismissed it earlier in the year but your Resident Adviser Romanian roundup rekindled my interested and now I am hooked. Totally hypnotizing.
