HIAF Guest Mix 5: Federico Molinari and Vera (Oslo)

So this one won’t come as a surprise to anyone who reads this blog regularly, it’s Federico Molinari and his cohort Vera, from Oslo Records. Oslo is a label that excites me more than most right now, and I know others have been enjoying their stuff too. Federico and Vera recorded this mix for the Frankfurt nightclub Robert Johnson (I’ve always loved that they called a techno club after an old blues singer) and it mostly consists of unreleased tracks and edits. If my opinion matters, I love this one, it’s probably my favourite guest mix so far.
There’s no tracklist, but Federico did spare me a few minutes to talk about the mix and Oslo in general.
What is your own background in dance music? When did you get into it and start DJing? Also, where are you actually from if you don’t mind my asking?
“Basically my background for dance music is House, but when I came to Germany for the first time, 8 years ago, I had a influence from the new sound of this country. I started DJing 10 years ago, and I come from Buenos Aires, Argentina.”
Where was the mix recorded and with what setup?
“The mix was recorded at home together with Vera. We used Ableton live and a controller.”
What are the plans for Oslo this year? Anything people might like to know about?
“We start with our sub-label in February, it’s called “Love Letters from Oslo” and the first release is from Vera and me together. Also every artist from our crew is going to release an EP this year on Oslo.”
What sort of music do you like to release and make? Or who are your favourite artists? The tracks so far on Oslo seem more housey than some of the sounds of recent years, but they are not totally American sounding house music either.
“I would really release anything that I would play or buy myself. As you see in our releases there is not a real style or line, every artist is bringing out their own sound without caring about the release before or the one is coming. Maybe it sounds really stupid but at the moment all my favourite artists are working in this project. Some people are going to make remixes or something, but somehow they are all involved. Like I told you before House is my main background and that’s why you can see it in our releases, but we still try to make something different.”
