My excuses for the large gap in posts

- Work: The biggest thing I’ve realised lately that being at clubs regularly is vital in ensuring you blog about dance music and keep things interesting, at least for me. When I’ve sat down to post lately I’ve found myself ready to spin off a long vaguely negative “state of things” post and then realised the music is fine, it’s me that hasn’t actually been out seeing it, anywhere. Since I don’t want to produce crap content just to keep this place ticking over, I’ve held back. I’m finding out how hard it is to blog when you’re working for 50 hours a week. It’s not because you don’t have the time, there are numerous bloggers with demanding jobs, it’s because what you do write can be coloured negatively by work, by life, especially if you’re not that passionate about what you’re doing.
- Decks: My decks are still in Dublin, as I try and find some way to get them over here that won’t cost me the earth. I think finally this will be sorted next week and I can practice DJing again instead of repeatedly listening to tracks on my Ipod, which is one of the early 18th century wind up varieties. You get about 30 minutes of music and it has the “random battery gauge” feature which gives you a pleasant surprise as it runs out just as you board a 50-minute train to work.
- Periodic loss of faith: My long “state of things” post was going to say how I felt dance music discourse was becoming very stuffy and had far too many instances of the word “should”. Then I thought that such a post (even this post) would be part of the problem. I love reviews and reviewing, and some people write great articles about the theory of dance music, but I do think it can be too easy to ignore the testing ground, the club. How often do you see a club reviewed or a blogger write vividly about what it’s like to be there? It seems we’ve got the proportions a bit wrong and I hope to fix this as far as I can on this site. I mean, there is a sleazy and a fun and a stupid side to dance music (it has a lot of sides, a dodecahedron at least!) There always has been, don’t let me forget that and I’ll try and do the same for you!
So if you’re wondering why things have been quiet, now you know. But now I’m hoping to overcome this stuff (it’s not exactly a titanic struggle is it?) and prove you can actually blog with depth and work a full-time job!

Having recently moved to London from Ireland (North) myself, I know your pain about missing your decks.
After 4 months I finally buckled and paid £150 to get my full setup couriered over on a Saturday. Included my technics, mixer, traktor scratch, monitor speakers and my desk. Parcelforce were the chosen courier.
It was worth every penny.
