Lawrence/Roland Appel/Will Saul@Plastic People

So just to catch up fully I should also say a bit about this gig on Friday. You may notice a mysterious “note” on the record deck next to Lawrence. Obviously I don’t know nor am I say friends with any individuals involved in this but the guy who placed it there had the look of a depraved Irishman. The note read something like “Hi Lawrence, can you please turn up the music a little, it’s not loud enough.”
It also worked as he turned it up shortly afterwards. That was a problem at this gig for a while I thought. I don’t care to have my ears blown but if you can’t feel the bass around the room and you can hear people chatting behind you something isn’t right. Anyone else at this have a second opinion?
As for the night as a whole I found it a bit disjointed. I don’t think anyone played a bad set per se but nobody seemed to be on for long enough to really settle. Lawrence himself was probably the best I thought, playing Jimpster’s Osunlade remix and one of the older Johnny D remixes, which got the place going a bit. After that there was some back to back to finish the night off.
It was a little muted in Plastic People, maybe due to numbers, though I do really love that club (despite the fatal absence of a Dyson Airblade.) Certainly the last Warm night with Move D, Mark E, and Gerd Janson seemed a lot wilder. Move D as a DJ is really impressive judging by that night, whatever you feel about his productions. He’s also playing London practically every 2-3 weeks these days, so there’s plenty chance to see for yourself.

fyi the vinyl decks broke halfway through, which was why lawrence only played for an hour and there was the back-to-back at the end. everyone had to use the cd decks instead… i didn’t think that worked *at all*, roland appel playing some awful handbag house…

That’s interesting, I did think it was odd that Lawrence was playing from CD-Js.
